Topics of Focus:
Hansen Plastics (HPC) in Elgin, IL is a 100% employee-owned company with key management topping 30 years of service. Traditions, disciplines, attitudes, teamwork and technology have led to growth and expansion at HPC during the industry's most trying times.
In the past two years, HPC has undergone structural, cultural and process change that have transformed their company. Originally 3 separate facilities, 18 months ago Hansen combined their separate facilities to be all under one roof.
Approximately 9 months ago, they took past data (with assistance from Harbour Results) and then streamlined their floor to be set in three value streams with coordinating colors to indicate different value streams. This change has resulted in a 1-2% swing in labor as opposed to the 20% it was at previously.
Additionally, the team has taken the book 2 Second Lean by Paul Akers to heart. Each new employee gets a copy sent to their home when they start. In fact, books are a popular way of training and fellowship as there are several book clubs going on at any given time throughout the company.
All of these improvement changes has transformed the company culture at Hansen to continuously improving their environment, processes and relationships with each other.
Benefits of Attending:
During the HPC plant tour, MAPP Members will have the opportunity to explore production operations and see how employee-owned Hansen Plastics has successfully transformed their company with an efficient value-stream set up on their shop floor, as well as transformed their company culture by following the 2 Second Lean principles and achieved total buy-in with the employees.
